VASAKHI FESTIVAL
Vasakhi is the most significant celebration for the Sikh community worldwide. It falls on the first day of Vasakhi, the year’s first month according to the Nanakshahi calendar. This coincides with the Punjabi New Year and the traditional spring harvest festival in Punjab. Vasakhi also commemorates the founding of the Khalsa in 1699 and since then, it has been celebrated annually where the date typically falls on either the 13th or 14th of April.
While Vasakhi celebrations happen at all six Gurdwaras in Penang, the state also hosts a grand celebration every year to provide a platform for the Sikh community to share their rich culture and traditions with the wider community. Visitors have the opportunity to experience the joy of Vasakhi firsthand through a variety of activities.
